           In the Year 2015

NYRA Regatta,   March 21-22
  Destination: Neuse River
Ok, so this not really a Knot Shore trip, but it did involve sailing... so it counts!  Especially this early in the year.... March!  My friend I met up with a few Pirate Sails' ago needed some crew... aka rail meat!

So I jumped on board... any chance to go sailing.
Met up with Pete from Pirate Sail too... It was a two day event.  We actually placed 1st the first day... out of two boats... hehhe

and then won the second day... so took first place overall in our class.

Shake Down,   May 2nd
  Destination: Neuse River
I am so chomping at the bit to hit the water... spent the day going over the boat... need to take her out.

To quote another famous captain "Well if anything's going to happen it's going to happen out there.

Amazingly the only thing that didn't work was the grill regulator... so the Admiral skillet fried the steak... it was excellent... I would have never known it was done on a skillet.

It was a beautiful sail... great weather.

Memorial Weekend,   May 23-25
  Destination: Cape Lookout
We were originally going to go to Ocracoke, but Harry on Jennabird didn't have enough time to do it so we opted out for Cape Lookout.  We decided we would launch in Oriental and go with Jennabird down the ditch (Adams Creek) thru Morehead City to Lookout.

We got to Oriental and pulled the boat into a parking spot (spots... like 6 of them...hehe) at the Water Street Grill to grab something to eat before launching.

Actually got to Oriental before Harry... had them join us.

We then went and launched and motored over to a slip next to Jennabird for the night... always fun navigating at night.  Glad I only draw like 2 feet... hit 3 feet as the gps channel data was wrong.

Jumped on Jennabird for some drinks and a little game of Dread Pirate.  Harry and Alicia seemed to enjoy the game... Alicia more so as she was killing us.

Jennabird took off early, I followed behind quietly so as not to wake the Admiral sleeping.  Pulled out the sails and sailed at 1-2 kts to the mouth of Adams Creek.  Motored the rest of the way through the creek. (later found I can get through the creek in 45 min at top speed.)   Went though the inlet, past a lot of big dredging equipment and put the sails back up.  Wind had picked up a lot... 15-20... had to start dropping sheets to keep her under control.  Eventually got close enough to the bight to motor in.

Anchoring... it an art.  Had my new claw anchor... 25 feet of new chain... started doing the standard Bermuda style, threw the claw out and got it set.  Then motored forward and threw the other... then watched the line on the new claw drop in the water... yikes.  We tried to grab the piece of line still floating... no luck.  Hit the MOB on the gps so I can go back later and find it... with scuba gear on... 20 feet.  Harry and I did try fishing for it on his dingy.

Had dinner on Jennabird and then in the morning went on their boat to go sailing and fishing.  This was part of my evil plan to the Admiral to think about bigger boats... it might have worked.

We both got to take the helm and Jean caught several fish.  Went back into the bight and anchored.

Had dinner with them again on Jennabird.  In the morning I pulled up our anchor... the one still attached to the boat... and got closer to the beach... 2 feet of water.

Took our snorkel gear to the beach side and played in the surf looking for shells and chasing fish.

Had a nice sail back to the inlet then motored back to Oriental (1 hour at full speed, and half tank gas)  We actually passed Jennabird that left 2 hours before us.  Nice having a power sailor.

Southport,   May30-31
  Destination: Wilmington
This was an awesome sail... got my picture taken for a brochure!

No problems trailering down... always good.

Got to Southport Marina and took my time waiting for Storm Walker... and of course Compromise... as usual.

Had some pretty decent wind... actually reefed slightly... did some circles around Private Island.... then went on to pass Storm Walker....

BEER Cruise,   June the 12th thru the 16th
  Destination: Pensacola, Florida
Always wanted to go on this trip... now this is the year... and not a blown tire, radiator or power steering pulley kept me from going!

Had no problems setting up and launching.  They had a lot of boats there... about 60 were signed up.  We got a chance to meet a lot of new sailors at the Skippers dinner and then made the rounds on the dock at night.

It was quite hot, good to have the A/C available on board.

The Skippers Dinner... the band was playing under the boat lift... pretty cool!

We packed the boat with our scuba gear... we did go diving near Sailboat cove... the water conditions were not that good... I was really hoping to have crystal clear water.

The way out of Pensacola Shipyard Marina

Had some good wind for sailing....

Saturday we sailed out to the Pensacola Beach Boardwalk for a day of swimming and a night of food and loud music!
